Page 1. Sign-up

Following is a sneak preview of the registration procedure, consisting of five pages. Click on the thumbnails to see larger images. Any feedback highly appreciated!

First page of the sign-up process. The user is asked to enter an e-mail address as login name and a password. The security image (also called captcha) is to avoid automized sign-ups by bots.

Page 2. Colleges & Universities

The user is asked to select which college or university he is studying at, or has been studying at. The list only displays colleges & universities in and arround Flanders. This is to narrow down the user group to Flemish students/professionals. Their are still doubts about including colleges & universities located in Wallony. Depending on the requests/complaints we'll consider adding Wallon schools.

At this moment it is not possible to select the degree the student has reached at the schools. Many disciplines give a bachelor degree after two years and a master degree when the student continues for another two or three years.

At this time there is no possibility for students who joined an exchange program to add a foreign college or university. Reason: Because it wil be a never ending list of schools spread all over the world. We may add a custom textfield later so the user can enter the school himself.

Page 3. Software categories

Users can select their software skills from a very extended list divided up into nine categories: 2D illustration, photo editing, 3D modelling, desktop publishing, web design, web development, motion graphics, sound production, fashion applications.

We may divide up the category '3D applications' into '3D modelling' and '3D engineering' because there is quite a difference between a 3D modelling & animation program like 3D Studio and a 3D engineering program like Pro Engineer. What do you think?

Page 4. Specific software applications

For each selected software category (selected in Page 3) a detailed list of software applications is loaded. The user can select the applications he's able to work with. Each application has a link to the website of the manufacturer.

We have a very complete list of each category, only the category 'Fashion applications' needs more input from the users. The list may be very incomplete as I don't have a good understanding of this sector. Any input highly appreciated... Which fashion application are there around?

Page 5. Verification

When the sign-up process is completed, the user will instantly receive an e-mail with a verification link. This is to verify the user's e-mail address. After verification the user will be able to manage his portfolio.

Flash movies besides images?

I've been wondering whether Creativeskills.be should allow Flash movies (.swf files) besides regular images in the user's portfolio pages. This way Flash developers can show off their talents publishing interactive movies and animations (taken into consideration the file size limit, which will be the same as images). What I would like to examine are the benifits as well as the disadvantages of this idea. External images can be dynamically loaded into Flash movies, I wonder whether they can be loaded from another server. Second, Flash movies can execute JavaScript, a possible security issue?

What do you think about allowing Flash movies? Any creative way you're thinking of using it?
